    Remarks:
The four columns were originally located on the portico of the old Boone County Courthouse which was completed in 1847 for $17,165. W. M. Winters was the architect for the building, and Brightberry McAlester, Larken Richardson and Henry Keene were the contractors. Limestone for the columns came from Hinkson Creek. When the courthouse was razed in 1909, the columns were retained and now stand before the new Boone County Courthouse. In 1911, globe lighting fixtures "symbolic beacons for Western settlers" were placed atop each column. The globes also commemorated "the hearty pioneers who made Boone County and built its early temple of justice." In 1966, a dedication marker was placed on-site by the Boone County Historical Society. New bases were installed in 1983 to replace time-weakened older ones, returning the bases to their original square shape which had been made round over the years. IAS files contain transcription of nearby marker. IAS files contain related articles from the Columbia Missourian (Columbia, MO), March 23, 1966; April 25, 1976; and June 5, 1983. IAS files also contain an unidentified article which features a photo of the columns in place on the old courthouse in 1895.
