Remarks:
The sculpture commemorates the 100th anniversary of August and Elizabeth Ehmke's Lane County, Kansas, homestead claim. The Ehmkes arrived in the United States from Germany in 1884 and in Lane County in 1886. Their great-grandson Vance and his wife Louise commissioned the sculpture and placed it on their farm, land once owned by August Ehmke. Jack Kassleman constructed the base for the sculpture.
