Remarks:
Replica of wood original (75008583) that was carved by Matthew S. Kahle in 1844. The wood original was removed from the top of Washington Hall in 1990 because of the figure's deteriorating condition. IAS files contain copies of newspaper articles from Roanoke Times and World News (Roanoke, Virginia), April 18, 1990, which discusses the removal of the original wooden figure; and Ring-tum Phi, May 7, 1992, which mentions plans for the dedication of the bronze cast of the figure.
