    Description: 
    Three abstract spiraling vortices of wrought iron set in the plaza of a transit facility. The sculptures spiral up from solid triangular bases. Each base is painted a different color. In the center of the open grid-like spirals, gongs and chimes of suspended car and bus parts form a floating ruin.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture is one of four elements of a larger site installation entitled "Rainforest". The installation was a collaborative work between Wiegman and Shaw. Wiegman was the principle artist for "Vortex." A nearby plaque indicates the project was funded by the Federal Transit Administration and the citizens of Thurston County. IAS files contain copy of the pamphlet "Rainforest - The Multi-Media Artwork of the Olympia Transit Center", 1994.
