    Description: 
    A bronze portrait of Abraham Lincoln holding a scroll stands atop a granite column adorned at the base with bronze reliefs plaques depicting Civil War battles --the firing on Ft. Sumter; the battle of the Merrimac and the Monitor; Lee's surrender; and Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. Surrounding the column are four granite bases each topped with a bronze figure of a Civil War soldier from a different branch of the service --an infantryman, a cavalryman, an artilleryman, and a sailor.

    The memorial is dedicated to the soldiers and sailors of Monroe County who fought in the Civil War. The cost of the monument was $26,000 which was raised by popular subscription.
