    Description: 
    A rectangular walkway in Pemberton Square near the Old Court House contains a mosaic of ten Roman numerals, one for each of the ten constitutional amendments in the Bill of Rights. Each Roman numeral is outlined in a thin strip of brass and is embedded with small brass letters expressing the text of the corresponding amendment to the Constitution. The brass letters are embedded in concrete colored with various earth tones. Surrounding the mosaic walkway is a brick border.

    Remarks: 
    The walkway was installed by the Boston Bar Foundation in conjunction with the national celebration of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. The estimated cost of the work was 65,000, part of which was funded by the Edward Ingersoll Browne Trust Fund. IAS files contain a copy of the proposal to the Edward Ingersoll Browne Trust Fund, the dedication program, and 1992 correspondence between the artists and the Boston Art Commission concerning the condition of the work.
    The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: Bill of Rights Walkway . July 1990/This project funded in part by a generous grant from the Edward Ingersoll Browne Fund "for the/adornment & benefit of Boston." Edward Ingersoll Browne Fund Commission: Mayor Raymond L. Flynn, Chairman/Christopher A. Iannella, Vice Chairman, Lee F. Jackson Collector - treasurer; Joseph I Mulligan, fund counsel.
