The horizontal pieces, the center section, and the globe are made of black granite, and all, except the globe, have inscriptions. The side sections have three military seals apiece on them, including those for the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Maritime Service. Remarks:
Gene Dixon sculpted the eagle for the monument. The Shelby County Board of Supervisors formed a nine member committee for the design of the monument, with the $15,000 cost raised through donations and fundraisers. Two members of the committee, Dick Jones and his son Rick Jones, were the engravers and designers of the monument. IAS files contain three related articles.
