    Remarks:
The sculpture is a replica of the original wooden eagle installed on the town hall roof in 1847. The original was taken down in 1971, restored and placed indoors in the town hall (see related NH000508). The fiberglass copy was cast in 1971-1972 and installed on the town hall roof in the summer of 1972. Eaves cast the fiberglass replica; Johnson served as general contractor for the restoration and duplication project. The sculpture was funded through contributions given in memory of the late Rev. William B. Rice and funds raised by the Improvement Society. IAS files contain copies of related excerpts from John R. Schott's "Frances' Town: A History of Francestown, New Hampshire", Francestown: 1972, pg. 193-194; and "Annual Reports of the Town Officers of Francestown, N.H. for 1971 and 1972", pg. 65-66.
