Formerly in the collection of Argo Trucking Company, Lower Heard Street, freight terminal yard, Elberton, Georgia
    Remarks:
The spire is the longest single piece of granite ever quarried in the Elberton Granite District, and is believed to be the world's largest granite spire. It was fabricated as a tribute to Grady Albertson, President of Argo Trucking Company, and was installed outside the Company in 1975. The Company specialized in the delivery of granite products. In 1980, Albertson sold the company, and in 1985, rather than see the spire destroyed as the land was sold, the Elberton Granite Association purchased the spire from the Shelton Trucking Service and relocated it to its current site at the Elberton Museum and Granite Exhibit. The spire was quarried by the Peppers Granite Company, and the base wire-sawed by the Comolli Granite Company. Jim Parham carved the "ARGO" letters on the spire. IAS files contain related articles from the Elberton Graniteer (Summer 1976), pg. 16, 17+; and the Elberton Graniteer (Summer 1986).
