The John F. Kennedy Memorial Gateway entrance was designed by William G. Johnson. Robert E. McKee general contractor; Lumen Martin Winter sculpted the medallion; cast by Roman Bronze Works. The memorial commemorates President Kennedy's visit to Los Alamos in Dec. 1962 and the speech he gave at Sullivan field. The entire memorial cost $10,000. Sand casting the medallion was estimated to cost $500. The project was funded by donations from the community. Medallion was created from a portrait taken of Kennedy when he made a speech in Los Alamos, Dec. 7, 1962. IAS files contain newspaper clippings, correspondence, and a dedication program.
