Description:
A large sundial, with a giant gnomon made of gold anodized aluminum sheeting that extends over a circular plaza area with concrete numbers around the perimeter. Hours lines are designated in gold-anodized aluminum lines; hour markers are concrete disks four feet in diameter cast into the solar plaza. The numerals are incised in Antique Roman pattern. A sunburst, consisting of a wrought-iron globe with simulated solar flares made of multicolored glass, hangs beneath the gnomon and is suspended above a reflecting pool and fountain. The sunburst is illuminated by lights recessed in the fountain pool. The Great Sundial also has a copper solar strip on its exterior; and water recirculating pumps inside. At the base of the Great Sundial's gnomon is an aluminum 1/4 scale model pilot sundial set in a granite boulder.
