Description:
A monument consisting of a polished granite ball atop a base with an arched top. The base is made of rough-hewn blocks which frame a smooth center tablet. Affixed to the front tablet is the Massachusetts state seal. The sculpture rests on a three-tiered base. The bottom two tiers have rough-hewn sides.

Remarks:
The sculpture was installed by the State of Massachusetts at a cost of $3,400 in memory of 767 Massachusetts soldiers who died while detained at Andersonville Prison. The sculpture was built by John Thompson and Sons of Quincy, Massachusetts.
