Some publications indicate that the Initial design for the sculpture was done by Frank Lynn Jenkins. The 57th Annual Report of the Fairmount Park Art Association states: "the project for the John Harrison Memorial, as noted in our last report, was halted by the death of the sculpture, Mr. Lynn Jenkins, on September 1, 1917. This caused a number of complications, which have finally been adjusted, and it is the present expecation that work on the project will be furthered in the coming year." The Association's 59th Annual Report has a photograph of the "final plaster model by Lawrence Tenney Stevens." Reports also differ on the foundry. The Index of American Sculpture, University of Delaware, 1985, and University of Pennsylvania, University Archives, 1970, both reported that Gorham Manufacturing Company cast the figure; however, Save Outdoor Sculpture, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia survey, 1992, reported that Bureau Brothers did the casting.
