    Provenance:
Seaweed, Jim, Karlukwees Village, Washington ca. 1920s to 1941.
    Remarks:
Believed to have been carved in the 1920s. The totem was originally owned by Jim Seaweed (last male of the Seaweed Clan), located in Karlukwees Village, Turnour Island, Washington. It was purchased by Dr. Frank Hibben in 1941, anthropology professor from University of New Mexico. From 1941-1946 it was stored indoors at the University of New Mexico, during a debate where it should be placed. From 1946 to 1972 it was placed on the north side of the Administration Building at UNM, and in 1972 was relocated to its current site in the courtyard of Maxwell Museum of Anthropology. Sculpture was repainted when acquired by University of New Mexico. IAS files contain related articles.
