Description:
Full-length bronze figure of a man with two hunting dogs. The man is dressed in sporting jacket, trousers and vest. He wears boots and a bowler-style hat. He holds a walking stick tucked under his proper left arm. His proper right hand is cupped around his proper right ear and his head and upper torso lean to the proper right, as if straining to hear. Positioned in front of him and to his proper right are two hunting hounds. The dog on the proper left is sitting on his haunches. The dog on the proper right is standing on all fours, his tail straight up in the air. Both dogs have their heads turned to the proper right. The sculpture stands on a rectangular bronze self-base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was originally located in France. It was damaged in World War I during the battle at Chateau Thierry in 1918. W. D. Longyear, a resident of Beverly Hills whose son was killed in the same battle, received permission from the French government to bring the sculpture to Beverly Hills. It was installed on Mr. Longyear's estate during a dedication ceremony on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1925. It has since been donated to the City of Beverly Hills and relocated. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from Beverly Hills Recreation and Parks Department brochure.
