    Description: 
    Reliefs of two Native-American chiefs flanking the courthouse entrance. The reliefs are mirror images of each other. Each chief has a feathered headdress and wears a blanket draped over their shoulders. Each has one hand protrudes from under the blanket, seemingly pointing to the building's entrance. The reliefs stop at mid-torso, with the blanket folds giving way to columns.

    Remarks: 
    The reliefs were made in Italy and each is composed of ten blocks of stone. J. W. Smith and Associates were the architects. The courthouse was constructed during Roosevelt's Public Works Administration program. IAS files contain excerpts from Carol Wells' "Cane River Country Louisiana," Natchitoches, LA: Northwestern State University, 1979, pg. 233 and an article from The Natchitoches Times, June 25, 1995, B-1.
