Description:
Portrait of Thomas Francis Bayard. He stands holding a scroll in his proper right hand and a robe or toga in his proper left hand. The scroll is his commission as Secretary of State, while the robe over his arm is the gown of a Doctor of Laws, representing his career as statesman, lawyer, and scholar. He stands on a multi-tiered base, with text plaques.
