    Description: 
    A long vertical I-beam placed on top of two parallel beams which angle down towards the center to the ground. Between the two ends on the ground is a group of rocks set in a concrete circle.

    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain transcriptions of the artist and founder monograms. Inscription on a nearby plaque reads: Mac Hornecker/"Prairie Bluff," 1979/Steel, Concrete, Rock/Commission, 2nd National Sculpture Competition. IAS files also contain a copy of the contract for the piece and copies of articles from the Huron Daily Plainsman (Huron, SD), Feb. 4, 1979; the South Dakota State University Collegian (Brookings, SD), Sept. 26, 1979, and the Brookings Daily Register (Brookings, SD), Sept. 20, 1979. The sculpture was the winner of the 8,500 dollar National Sculpture Competition II, juried by Richard Hunt and conducted by the South Dakota Memorial Art Center. The work was partially funded by the South Dakota Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
