    Description: 
    A graduated, four-tiered, pentagon-shaped war monument of smooth marble, with brass-colored metal memorial plaques honoring the war dead of five wars. On each of the five sides of the bottom tier is an emblem of a military branch, including: southwest: Coast Guard; south: Army; southeast: Army; northeast: Air Force; northwest: Marines.

    Remarks: 
    Monument commemorates the five branches of the military, as well as the local war dead from the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. It was erected by a committee and funded through donation. The five sides of the monument correspond with the five wars and branches of service that it honors. No names of Spanish-American War dead are known. Architect was Lynn J. Dreiry of the architectural firm of Lynn J. Dreiry Firm. The marble for the monument was provided by the Ingram Memorial Company of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Information on the sculpture is available in the files of the Walton County Library. IAS files contain a partial transcription of a newspaper article from The DeFuniak Herald, June 4, 1987, pg. 1, 13a, 11b.
