    Description: 
    A portrait of Nishnabe Gemaw, dressed in buckskin pants and moccasins, stands with his proper right hand raised in the air while his proper left arm cradles a pipe to his abdomen. The figure's hair is in braids and two feathers hang from the proper right side of his head. The figure stands atop a boulder-like base.

    Plaque approximately 20 feet away reads: NISHNABE GEMAW/(MICHIGAN INDIAN LEADER)/DONATED BY FRED MEIJER AS/TRUSTEE OF THE MEIJER FOUNDATION/TO THE CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS ON/BEHALF OF ITS NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITY/SCULPTOR, TOM HILLIS. Three other plaques describe the three local tribes of Native-Americans: Odawa (Ottawa), Ojibwa (Chippewa), and Potawatomi. A fourth plaque contains a map of the Great Lakes area in addition to a lengthy text.
