Description:
The monument is an obelisk adorned at the base with polished panels flanked by fluted columns. In the center of each fluted column is a raised image of a diamond and at the top of each column is a raised image of a star. Across the top of each polished panel is a low pediment decoration. On the front of the obelisk, just above the polished panel, is raised image of the Connecticut state seal. The obelisk rests on a low concrete pad.

Remarks:
The monument commemorates those who fought in the Civil War. It was moved a few feet west, from the true center of the intersection, in 1924 when Main Street was widened. IAS files contain a copy of the dedication program. The Kent Public Library has a newspaper article from around 1886 that discusses the dedication.
