    The sculpture was sponsored by the Worcester Fire Department in honor of Simon E. Combs, 13th Chief Engineer of the Worcester Fire Department. IAS files contain a newspaper article from the Worcester Daily Spy, Sept. 16, 1896 and a copy of a program from the Worcester Firemen's Relief Association, 1887.
