    Description: 
    Jesus, seen standing, placing his proper left hand on the head of a sick child held upright by its mother. The child's mother kneels before Christ, propping the child up in her lap. The mother has two long thick braids falling down over her proper left shoulder. She wears a long-sleeved dress with shawl, and hoop earrings. The child slumps limply, with held tilted to proper right. Jesus stands before them, his proper right had grasping his robes in front of him at waist level. The sculpture is mounted on a multi-tiered base, decorated on front with a laurel wreath containing a dogwood blossom, on which is superimposed a red cross.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was a gift from by Herman A. Duemling, M.D. It was inspired by the painting "The Healing Christ" by a German artist. It was originally installed on the front lawn of the Old Lutheran Hospital. IAS files contain a photocopy of a historic photograph depicting the sculpture at its original site. For additional reading see the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, April 15, 1916; and Arthur M. Paulison's "Lutheran Hospital Celebrates 80 Years of Service, 1904-1984".
