Abstract sundial composed of 19 curved steel planes aligned vertically and connected together. Each plane is topped by two triangular clear acrylic prisms, allowing the sculpture to function as a sundial. The sides of the sculpture sweep slightly back, giving it an overall rippling effect. The steel planes are painted pale yellow with the intervals between the north facing planes overpainted in bright yellow. The sculpture stands on a base of four railroad ties. The ties rest on concrete footings which are painted dark brown to match the wood.

Remarks:
Before being placed at its current location, the sculpture was temporarily located in the Kroeber Fountain on campus sometime in 1982. It was installed at its current location in 1994. The prisms along the top of the sculpture refract the sunlight; at noon, the spectra converge into the center portion of the sculpture. For related material see article in "Leonardo", No. 2, 1992, pg. 159-161.
