    Remarks:
Sculpture commemorates a renowned English bull terrier Patsy Ann, who, although deaf, greeted arriving ships at Juneau waterfront and was dubbed Official Greeter of Juneau Alaska by Mayor Goldstein in 1934. Patsy Ann was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Portland, Oregon of pedigreed stock. Juneau dentist Dr. Keyser bought Patsy Ann for his twin daughters; but when that didn't work out, gave her to Dean Rice of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and his family. Patsy Ann become the town mascot - greeting ships at the dock, attending baseball games, and longshoremen events. She was said to be the most famous canine west of the Mississippi; more photographed than Rin Tin Tin. She died March 30, 1932 at the age of 12 and was lowered into Gastineau Channel. Volunteers at the Gastineau Humane Society held numerous fund-raising events in honor of the 50th anniversary of her death to help fund the bronze statue, cast by Shidoni Foundry.
