Description:
This fountain was inspired by the legend that in the 1830s Francis Blair found a spring full of "sand and mica which sparkled like silver" thus providing the name for Silver Spring, Maryland. The City Place Fountain is designed like a spring with water bubbling out of a stone and cascading down stone steps into a fountain pool. The stone steps are covered with local sparkling mica schist and blue pearl schist to remind one of sparkling stone of the Blair legend. At the base of the fountain is an aluminum grate adorned with cut out shapes of leaves to remind one of the leaves that Blair might have seen floating in the waters of the spring.
