The Soldiers, Sailors and Pioneers Monument was planned by the Wetzel-Compton Post of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was financed by a county-wide tax levy. The figure ultimately cost $3,250. Frederich Noonan was the monument building architect and John C. Weaver was the monument building engineer. The monument building is located at the site of Fort Hamilton during the 1790's. The building was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The monument building and figure underwent restoration in 1987-1988 by Karkadoulias Bronze Art, Inc., and was rededicated July 4, 1988.
