Description:
Seven relief panels depicting the mythical Amazonian Queen Calafia, after whom California was named. She is depicted in the central panel, with her handmaidens bringing her gifts, including an orange tree in a pot. The side panels depict the various ethnic groups that make up the state, including a Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Basque, Mexican, and African-American. The last panel shows Sciences and the Arts. Occupations shown include a scholar, engineer, pioneer couple, citrus grower, and scenes also include swineherd, land and water keys.
