Description:
Full-length figure of a fireman climbing a ladder. He is in full-protective gear including boots and a hat. He wears an oxygen tank on his back; the mouthpiece for the tank rests on his chest. His proper left foot is on the second rung of the ladder and his proper right foot is on the third rung. He holds the ladder with his proper right hand and carries a young girl in his proper left hand. The girl faces the fireman and has braided hair and wears a ring on her proper left hand. The forged steel sculpture stands on a concrete base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the Portsmouth Fire Fighters Local No. 1313 of the International Association of Fire Fighters. Funds for the sculpture were raised through donations. Nearby plaque: "Dedicated to Fire Fighters Devoted to the Protection of Life and Property. May 15, 1994." The artist's daughter served as model for the young girl.
