    Remarks:
The fountain was presented to the city of Michigan City in 1909 in memory of the Honorable William B. Hutchinson by his widow and late heirs. The fountain was built at the Indiana State Prison by inmates under the supervision of stonemasons Joe Wolf and Oliver "Shorty" Green of Logansport using designs drawn by Mr. Hutchinson. Bill Henry of Detroit, foreman of the shop, assisted in the project. The prisoners were employed by the Mt. Airy Stone Company owned by Schuyler Powell. His son, J. Harold Powell, worked out the plans.
The fountain was originally installed at the northeast corner of 10th and Franklin Streets. When Franklin Street was widened during the 1930s, the fountain was moved to 10th and Wabash. The fountain was vandalized during the 1960s, prompting the city to removed the bronze fixtures for safekeeping. In the late 1970s the fountain was moved to the grounds of the Old Lighthouse Museum and a restoration effort was undertaken by the Michigan City Historical Society. The bronze sculpture and lion's head faucet were recast and the fountain was restored. A rededication ceremony was held on June 27, 1981.
