Description:
A kneeling female figure with her head in her proper right hand is mounted atop a large square base. She rests her proper left arm on her raised proper left knee. A full-length garment falls to the ground covering her legs. The base is adorned on the front with a white marble relief depicting the Iowa state seal.

Remarks:
The sculpture was installed at a cost of $10,000 by the State of Iowa in honor of Iowa prisoners of war who died while at Andersonville Prison. The sculpture was designed and fabricated by Des Moines Marble and Mantel Company. IAS files contain an excerpt from Bill Burnett's "Andersonville Monuments," Andersonville National Historic Site Library (reports dedication date of November 17, 1906); National Park Service Classified Structure Field Inventory Report, Dec. 1975, (reports dedication date of November 16, 1908); an article from Southern Living (June 1993): pg. 8; an Andersonville Official Map and Guide.
