    Remarks:
Funded by the estate of Margaret R. Kincaid, who bequeathed four thousand dollars to the City of St. Louis for a park fountain. Sources have spelled donor's name variously as Kincaid and Kinkaid. Only women sculptors were allowed to enter the competition for the fountain commission. Nancy Coonsman Hahn's original conception of the fountain, and the controversy that ensued, are discussed in McCue's "Sculpture City: St. Louis." The final version of the fountain is significantly different from the artist's original design.
The fountain's granite base was designed by Hugo Graf. Nancy Coonsman Hahn also was responsible for five benches near the fountain. The cast concrete benches are supported by crouching cherubic figures. IAS files contain copy from unpublished 1969 Mayor's report, "Public Art St. Louis."
