Description:
A granite stele with high-relief figure of Columbus, standing and dressed in period clothing. His proper right hand is by his side holding a hat; while his proper left hand is held up grasping the shaft or pole of a flag or banner terminating in a cross finial. Lettering appears on the lower half of the stele.

Remarks:
IAS files contain a copy of the Meriden Record-Journal Aug, 12, 1992 and Sept. 13, 1992 newspaper articles. The piece cost $35,000 and was a gift to the City from the Unison Club of Meriden, part of a nationwide program of the Italian-American community to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the historic voyage of Columbus in 1492. Gradwell was the installation contractor.
