Remarks:
The sculpture was installed by the Jolly Workers Club in memory of Cherokee County's World War I dead and the veterans who served during the war. In 1990, the sculpture was knocked over and damaged by a tornado. It was removed, repaired and later integrated into a new war memorial one block west, in Jacksonville City Park. The new memorial, designed to honor all war dead, was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 1992.
