    Description: 
    Full-length figure of Christopher Columbus stands on a square pedestal in front of a tall stele. The figure has long hair and wears a tunic, cape and tights. He holds a map in his proper right hand. His proper left hand rests on what appears to be the bow of a ship. The work stands on a low, three-stepped base.

    Remarks: 
    The Columbus statue was intended to replace a bust of the explorer which had been located in front of the Columbus School. The bust was removed when the school was demolished in the early 1960s. The $151,000 cost was raised from individuals and groups, including the Bridgeport Civitan Club.
