The portrait was painted by Dr. Lorenzo Gibson's granddaughter, Maria Gibson. Dr. Lorenzo Gibson was born on May 27, 1804 in Clarksville, Tennessee, the son of William Rowe and Fannie (Hampton) Gibson. He died on Sept. 27, 1866. Lorenzo Gibson moved to Little Rock in 1834. He married Caroline Louisa Thomas. He was a member of the Little Rock Town Council in 1838, represented Pulaski County in the Arkansas General Assembly in 1838-1841, was the Whig candidate for Arkansas governor in 1841, represented Hot Springs County in the Arkansas General Assembly from 1843-1844, was appointed surveyor general of Arkansas in 1857 by President Zachery Taylor, and represented Pulaski County in the state general assembly from 1856-1857.
