    Description: 
    Full-length portrait of Sam Rayburn. He wears a suit and tie. In his proper left hand he holds a piece of unfurled paper. In his proper right hand he holds a gavel. The bronze sculpture stands atop a square, polished gray granite base.

    Remarks: 
    Rayburn was Speaker of the House in the United States Congress for seventeen years. The sculpture is one component of a larger landscaping project for the Rayburn Library. The landscaping project, which cost $550,000, included this sculpture and a sculptural plaza. The project was overseen by Jack Schutts of Schutts, Magee & Riddle, and was funded by the Sid W. Richardson Foundation and the Anne Burnett and Charles Tandy Foundation. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Denison Daily Herald, March 12, 1990; and the Bonham Daily Favorite, March 11 and Sept. 12 1990.
