Description:
A tower of twelve books stacked one on top of the other with the top book turned at a slight angle. The books are glazed in a bronze/copper color, and the pages of each book are glazed in a blue/green color.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned to commemorate Centerville and Washington Township's Bicentennial in 1996. It is named after the poem "The Record," by Wendell Berry, with the opening line "My old friend tells us how the country changed..." and commemorates the knowledge of the pioneer, the farmer, and the villager. IAS files contain copy of text of poem.
