Remarks:
The $20,000 sculpture commemorates Lloyd Tilghman (1817-1863), Paducah's only general of the Civil War, who died at Champion's Hill, near Vicksburg. Lloyd Tilghman was an engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad in Paducah, Kentucky at the outbreak of the Civil War. The sculpture was a gift of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the United Confederate Veterans, presented by General Tilghman's last two surviving sons, Frederick Boyd Tilghman and Sidell Tilghman. Lang Park was known as Confederate Park when the sculpture was dedicated in 1909.
