    Remarks:
The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION, INC. and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUNDS/YEAR OF THE CHILD 1979/SKIPPER/BABS MELLOR. The Newton Art Association raised $1,500 toward the $3,000 cost of the sculpture and the remaining $1,500 was provided by the City of Wichita's Community Development Funds. The sculpture rests on a 7,000 lbs. boulder that was donated by Bob Clearwater of Topeka, Kansas. Duane Gagna is the stone cutter who fit the sculpture into a shelf that he cut out of the stone boulder. IAS files contain a copy of the fund raising letter mailed by the Newton Art Association soliciting donations for the sculpture. IAS files contain articles from the Topeka State Journal, Dec. 7, 1979; the Topeka Daily Capital, Nov. 21, 1979 and Nov. 27, 1979; the Wichita Eagle, Jan. 11, 1980; and the Newton Kansan, Oct. 27, 1980 and Sept. 4, 1991.
