This piece is a recast of an 1884 sculpture that stood at the Monroe Steel Company (see IAS record MI000640), until damaged by vandals. Halfield, a steel company retiree, recast the damaged remains of the sculpture using donated zinc, $30 in pennies collected from school children and other metals. The recasting was done in 1980. In 1993, the city acquired the replacement cast and moved it to its current site.
