Formerly located St. Francis Hospital, State and Sixth Streets, Columbus Ohio 1915-1957.
Originally installed Southeast corner of Broad and High Streets, Columbus, Ohio ca. 1880-1915.
Remarks:
The sculpture of Dr. Smith, former dean of Starling Medical College at St. Francis Hospital, was a gift from the Smith family. The fountain was originally installed on the corner of Broad and High Streets, from ca. 1880-1957, and served as a water fountain for people and animals. In 1915, the statue (minus the operating fountain basin) was moved to the front yard of St. Francis Hospital, where it remained until 1957, when it was relocated to its current site. IAS files contain related newsclipping from Columbus Dispatch dated Dec. 30, 1956.
