Abstract
Object Type:
Sculpture
Owner:
Administered by City of Baltimore, Recreation and Parks, 2600 Madison Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21217
Provenance:
Formerly located Fort Worthington Recreation Center, Hoffman Street & H. Kenwood Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21213 until 2007.
Remarks:
The original sculpture, commissioned through the City's Percent for Art program and installed in 1975 at this location failed structurally. The artist made this replacement, which was installed in 1979.
The sculpture was originally a bright red-orange; at one time it was painted a deep blue by maintenance workers, but was subsequently repainted to its original red-orange shade. Kids play on the sculpture. For related information see Henry and Caroline Naylor's "Public Monuments & Sculpture of Baltimore: An Introduction to the Collection," 1987; and Leslie M. Freudenheim's "Baltimore's Public Art 1960-1980," 1980. The Baltimore Banner (September 26, 2023) reports the sculpture was removed ca. 2007.
