Sculpture is erected on the site of the former Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children. The school was in operation from 1885 to 1945 as an institution for wards of the State and until 1970 as a school for educable mentally disabled children. The monument was initiated by Harvey and Maxine Ronglien and funded with private donations. Mr. Ronglien was a resident at the school from 1932 to 1943. IAS files include a related article from the Owatonna People's Press, July 17, 1993 and the text of three nearby plaques.
