    Description: 
    Eight gargoyles sitting upright are distributed along the west and south facades of the museum. Three gargoyles have brief inscriptions on their breasts.

    Remarks: 
    Dyche Hall houses the Museum of Natural History and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Originally 12 gargoyles (4 on each side) were carved on Dyche Hall, but 4 were removed when an addition was made to the east side. The Frazees were assisted by two University students, Antonio Tommasini and Fred Pickett. "Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, KU" is the school yell of the University of Kansas. IAS files contain related information from Robert Taft's "The Years on Mount Oread," Lawrence, KS: University of Kansas Press, 1955, pg. 74; The Oread, Aug. 21, 1981, pg. 5.
