    Description: 
    A six-pointed concrete wall with yew trees forms the Star of David base. In the center, six T-shaped tapered pieces of steel rise upward. Three tiers of horizontal steel bands (1/2 inches wide by 3/8 inches thick) run in a zig-zag pattern between the upright steel pieces, with three applied X's on each section of the bands (simulating barbed wire.). At the top, the steel uprights bend inward in the shape of a shepherd'scrook.

    Inscriptions on nearby plaques read: (First:) HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL /Place (Second:) IN MEMORY OF ALL/INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO PERISHED/ AT THE HANDS OF THE NAZIS (Third:) IN TRIBUTE TO ALL THE/RIGHTEOUS GENTILES/WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES/TO RESCUE JEWS/DURING THE HOLOCAUST. IAS files contain a copy of The New York Times, Oct. 31, 1977 describing the dedication of the memorial and a feature in the New Haven Register (New Haven, CT), Oct. 25, 1977, describing the monument, believed to be the first such memorial built under the direction of a city government. New Haven citizens provided funding.
