    Description: 
    Medal whose theme is world membership in the Council of Churches. On the obverse is a relief of various examples of church architecture to represent the many communions in the Council. A small inset shows McGaw Hall at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois), where the Second Assembly of the World Council of Churches met in August 1954. There is a ship with a cross-shaped mast on the reverse. The Greek word "Oikoumene," which means "of the whole inhabited earth" appears in a half-circle over the cross.
