Located Bicentennial Park, 600 block of South Main Street, Lamar Area Hospice Association Memorial Gardens, Lamar, Colorado
Remarks:
Commissioned by the Southeast Colorado Arts Council to celebrate Lamar's Centennial Celebration. The $50,000 commission included two works by the artist on campus. (See also Prairie Sentry, IAS record CO000587). Funding came from contributions and from the sale of sixty-five miniatures of the sculpture, with grants from the Colorado Council on the Arts and Humanities and the Mountain Bell Foundation. Lamar (Colorado) is known as the "Goose Hunting Capital of the World," and the sculpture was the town's first monumental bronze. The Lamar Area Hospice Association assisted with the pedestal and planter. Bicentennial Park is also known as Centennial Park.
IAS files contain transcription of names on pedestal and nearby plaques; magazine article from MUSE; and newspaper clipping from July 3, 1986.
