Remarks:
Fountain is part of the Fountain Plaza project which was conceived in 1980 and began with a task group formed under the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency. The task group's mission was to plan and develop the four-block area near the Main and Genesee intersection, coordinating with developers. The Fountain Plaza project was designed by Sasaki Associates and the fountain and the service building were designed by Fontanese, Folts, Aubrecht. Dev-Con Associates was the developer. The financing for the project came from both public and private sectors, including, the Urban Mass Transit, community development block grants, city bonds, the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency, Citicom, the Rotary Club, Norstar and Key Bank. The Rotary Club held a $500,000 fund drive to pay for the ice rink, so the city only had to pay fifteen percent of the cost of the plaza, about $690,000. IAS files contain a related article from the State University of New York at Buffalo publication, the Reporter (Buffalo, NY), Nov. 7, 1991.
