Formerly located Stevens Triangle, Portland Avenue at Grant Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 1912-1935.
Remarks:
Gift of Mrs. Phillip B. Winston, daughter of Col. John H. Stevens (1820-1900), first settler of Minneapolis. The sculptor worked from sketches made by Jacob Fjelde. The statue was moved from its original site of Stevens Triangle in 1935 at the request of Col. Stevens' heirs, when construction disrupted the site. Its current location is near the Stevens House in the Park. IAS files contain a survey form from the Minneapolis Arts Commission and related articles from the Minneapolis Journal, ca. June 1912 and Nov. 8, 1914. See also the Minneapolis Public Library Special Collections File: Sculpture: John H. Stevens.
